How a flooring takeoff runs
How do you measure floor area by room?
Calibrate the sheet against a dimension you can read, then trace the room boundary. Square footage totals as you close the shape, and the outline stays on the plan so you can see what you already picked up.
How do you keep each flooring material separate?
Make a scope per material off the finish schedule — carpet tile, LVT, ceramic, sealed concrete — each with its own color, waste factor built into your rate, and material and labor lines. Rooms total under the scope you were on when you traced them.
What about base, transitions and thresholds?
Run base as a linear scope around the room perimeter and count transitions, thresholds and floor drains as each. They stay off your square-foot totals but still land on the bid.
Can you turn the takeoff into a material order?
Export CSV by scope for the supplier — square feet per material, linear feet of base, counts of trim — or send the priced proposal PDF to the GC. Both come out of the same takeoff, with nothing retyped.
